Women's XC Colorado Springs : Speakers & Interviews

Cheyenne Mountain State Park in Colorado Springs played host to round #4 of the US Pro XCT this afternoon. The first race in the center of the country and the only of the year at altitude, it was sure to be an exciting day. Off the line the 33 Pro Women stayed wheel to wheel through the first quarter lap as the Luna Chix, Katie Compton, and Heather Irmiger led the way. Not long after the race hit the first technical sections on the course the pack split in to several small groups. Irmiger, Compton, and Pendrel formed an elite trio at the front through one lap. It was on that first lap that Heather suffered her first of two flats on the day that would virtually take her out of the race. Compton and Pendrel went back and forth with Pendrel climbing a bit better while Compton seemed to have the edge on the descents. Behind, it was Georgia Gould and Katerina Nash in chase. The third group on the course was VT native Lea Davison and Hawaiian Pro Pua Sawicki. At the finish it was Pendrel taking the two up sprint over Compton for her second consecutive Pro XCT win. Nash and Gould followed in the 3rd and 4th while Davison out sprinted Pua for the last step on the box.
