Colorado Springs played host to round #2 of the Trailwatch.net Short Track Series this evening under cloudy skies. First off the line were the Pro Women. All the heavy hitters were in town with the exception of round one winner Emily Batty who remained in Canada for this weekend. The tight and twisty single track course made for an exciting 20 minutes of racing. With little to no passing on the 2 minute and forty five second lap, the start proved to be one of, if not the most important of elements of the race. An elite group of five formed early on containing Heather Irmiger, Katie Compton, and the Luna trio of Gould, Pendrel, and Nash. Gould was uncharacteristically dropped mid way through the race. Luna teammate Katerina Nash also found herself unusually off the back as the race went forward. Pendrel, Irmiger, and Compton rotated through at the front for a few laps until Compton made a hard move on the back climb that left only two riders at the front. On the final lap it was Boulder resident Heather Irmiger who won the two up sprint over Colorado Springs local Katie Compton. Pendrel followed closely in 3rd, Nash 4th, and Gould 5th. Lea Davison (6), Pua Sawicki (7), Kathy Sherwin (8), Kelli Emmett (9), and Allison Dunlap (10, and making her return to mountain bike racing after 4 years in retirement) rounded out your top 10!
