Summer Goals?

Colt McElwaine 3 years ago

For the Elites in the Mountain Bike World, it's go time. The North American summer is your chance to make or break a season. Starting this week, every weekend is filled with top priority racing.

July 04: USA Marathon National Championships
July 11: Canadian XC National Championships
July 17: USA XC National Championships
July 25: Mont-Sainte-Anne World Cup
Aug 01: Bromont World Cup
Aug 08: Mt. Snow US Pro XCT
Aug 15: Windham US Pro XCT
Sep 01: World Championships

For some, it's the Championships. For others, the World Cups. But one thing is certain: if you're a professional mountain bike racer in North America, the most important race of your season is listed among the eight above.

That said, most of us are not professional mountain bikers sharpening our legs four hours a day to take on the world's best. So what is it you are getting ready for? With all these National Series and World Cup races going on, it's easy to loose track of all the great regional races going on this summer. What are you most looking forward to? Where do you want to have your best ride? What are your goals for summer 2009...? Reply below.

July is more or less the end of XC racing in Oregon, there is still Pistis Short Track to look forward to......The best racing is just about to start....Cyclocross! This year I actually trained (beyond my normal 1 day a week ride followed by lots of food, good company, and occasionally massive amounts of beer.) Cross will be good, I just walked my property & plan on building my own personal CX training camp. Time to start running & training. Hope to see everyone in the mud.

Whindham/Mt. Snow on your calendar??
Ideally I would like to get out to at least one of those, but work has been sketchy this summer so I don't have a lot of cash for travel. I'm trying to work out some carpooling with central PA folk, but so far nothing is concrete. It would also help if I knew people in the area so I wouldn't have to pay for a motel. So, if I can stretch the budget, I'll be there.

For me, everything is building up to the Collegiate Nationals (MTB and CX). I don't have the fitness to get anywhere near the lead riders, but I'm really looking forward to the experience. Aside from that, I have a few more 40-50 mile races I would like to do well in (Michaux Curse of Dark Hollow, Darkhorse 40, and Rattling Creek Marathon). If I could also finish in the top 50% of an expert/Cat1 field of a standard XC race, that would be good too... I'm still considering this a "building" year...

I registered online for Nationals in Granby. I had to choose between "Male"... "Female"... or... "Special."

"Special" are the androgynous gearless people, apparently.
There are some enormously strong bionic riders already signed up, so my goal is to make myself suffer without getting demoralized by the view of their back ends riding away from me!
Good luck Kathryn! Looking forward to doing you post race interview ; )

Pisgah Stage Race!!!

Top race for me will be Mt. Snow too. The technical East Coast riding is much more my style than the stupid fire roads out west. Maybe Windham too if I can make it...

Like a lot of others, my number one goal is the national championships this month. It's the first time they have been at altitude for a while so that should help as an in-stater.

Good luck Nathaniel! Will you be racing Junior X?

Butte 100, August 1st. This year I'll do the 50 (again) and hope for a solid ride. Then next year double the distance with the official 100.

I'd like to do well at Mt.Snow and Windham and do as many local races as I can.

Tipperary Creek, the final of the Winter Park Series, is always one of major objectives for the season.

Looking forward to the Fools Gold 100 and the Pisgah stage rage (not summer, but a big goal!)
