Known as the “Working Man” in cycling circles, Bart Gillespie has a tendency to spread himself a little thin but somehow pulls it off. Bart has been racing bikes most of his life and has dominated mountain bike and cyclocross racing in Utah for years. For the last two years, he has been racing with the MonaVie Cannondale team, enjoying the best seasons of his career on the juice. In 2007, he finished seventh at the U.S. National Mountain Bike Championships and the U.S. National Cyclocross Championships. He also won the Intermountain Cup Race Series, the Utah Cyclocross Series, and was “King of the Mountain” with the fastest lap at 24 Hours of Moab.
The 2008 season saw much of the same success, including a fourth place finish and a stage win at the BC Bike Race, a close second place finish in the Intermountain Cup Series, and a solid defense of his Utah Cyclocross Series title with a near undefeated season. Bart also retained his “King of the Mountain” title at 24 Hours of Moab.
Bart works full time as a physical therapist at the VA hospital and is a specialist in amputee care, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and diabetic foot care. Dr. Gillespie is also an instructor at the University of Utah, Division of Physical Therapy, and enjoys mentoring interns. On the home front, Bart enjoys the support of an amazing wife who supplied the beauty genes for their two gorgeous daughters. He loves traveling to races with his family and hopes to share the world with his girls. When he’s not bike racing, Bart enjoys Nordic and backcountry skiing and has been known to build things—for instance, his home! Bart plans to continue representing the working family man in epic races around the world and sharing his passion for the bike and life with everyone he meets along the way.
