Highlights from the Colorado Springs US Pro XCT on June 13 2009.

6,075 feet above sea level at the Sand Creek International Classic in Colorado Springs, North America's fastest male mountain bikers gathered for round #4 of the US Pro XCT. The pack flew off the line at 2:30pm with Todd Wells leading the charge up the first climb. Lap one saw an elite group form at the front including Wells, JHK, and Plaxton. A mishap by Wells took down both he and Plaxton allowing Jeremy to get a gap coming in to lap two. The three would eventually rejoin as Kabush rode alone in fourth position at 30 seconds. Behind, a mass of riders traded places from 5th-15th while the course, and altitude, took it's tole. The lead trio stayed tight for the remaining two laps. JHK was climbing well while Plaxton was descending like a man with no brakes. Coming in to the finish, Jeremy held a slight advantage over Max on the final decent before the Canadian took a sneaky outside line on one of the final corners to take the lead for good. Wells rode in alone for 3th as did Kabush for 4th. Canadian superstar Derek Zandstra steadily moved up through the field to take the last step on the podium (A career best for Derek.)
