Let Lindine Ride.

Anonymous Coward 2 years ago

Since when did Myerson have any credibility

CAADalyst 2 years ago

Adam Myerson said it...straight from the mouth of the creator. If the rankings aren't changed now all cyclingdirt's credibility will be lost.

Hats off. I am sorry that I spelled your name wrong.

G Block: I don't even think I should be ranking 10th American. But to answer your question, it's because it's based on the past 12 months. Not just the start of the season. So, I went ok in the second half of last season, and I still have those points. My ranking will continue to drop unless my results pick up again. NBD.

For those of you NOT racing against Lindine, you just don't understand how he's riding right now, or you're not paying attention. He is literally riding at a different speed then everyone else in the Northeast right now. Of course he shouldn't be ranked ahead of the World Cup level riders. But he should absolutely be ranked as the first person behind them. 6th or 7th, at worst.

Lindine is a great race, a great regional racer. Thats it. Winning races against B fields doesn't mean you are one of the fastest in the country. When Justin starts to finish well (top 5) in big national level events, he will get the respect he deserves. But until then we will just be a good regional rider from New England.

Kevin Maldonado 2 years ago

Tom:

You are missing the formula. According to the formula (XJT) Lindine will drop two spots 16-17. That's right. Bust a hanger, run a half lap and finish 3rd. Isn't it obvious that the two guys that beat you on Saturday should pass you on the ranking? Forget about what happened on Sunday. Why not put Meyerson in front of Lindine as well, after all he is a better steerer. Just ask him. Seriously, we are going to have to wait for Louisville for the showdown. If Justine does what we think he can, Colt will have no option but to drink the Honey.

Lindine- when will you believe? Wins trump all.

From the CyclingNews New Gloucester preview article, http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/downeast-cyclo-cross-2011/preview

"This week the cycling blogs have been buzzing about Lindine's victories. His New England fans have almost become cult-like with some demanding that he be ranked higher in national racing polls, while one blogger suggested "Lindine for President". There is little doubt that these legions will be on hand to cheer for him in Maine this weekend."
I think their talking about you guys...

Ezra 2 years ago

Lindine should be in the top ten, and so what if West Coaster's don't know much about him? They will soon at the rate he keeps winning UCI races!! :)

New England Women are on the move this season! NICE!

I really wish Trebon would have been at Plzen and now at Tabor. It would have been great to see him and Powers settle who is #1. Check out the Velogames fantasy cx. I set up a mini-league for cyclingdirt.org the code is 20033151

THIS IS AWESOME! More of these please!

patrickshank 2 years ago

regardless of ranking, what's clear is that Lindine is trending upwards. he's on a different level this year, and now he has some confidence and knows how to FREAK OUT!! if he can avoid mechanicals and crashes (he has a history and habit of that), the results will keep coming. even with the bad luck he does alright - he bridged a 20 second gap to Driscoll and Powers (who were pushing hard together with world-cupper, Nicolas Bazin) and stayed with them to the line in Vermont, and he caught Troy Wells in Granogue after a crash that cost him a good chunk of time.

CCX 2 years ago

I see the argument that Lindine could possible be ranked higher than 1 or 2 guys in front of him, but you could just as easily argue that 2 or 3 guys behind him are better. Chris Jones was on fire at Spooky and will pass Justin in a week or 2. Troy Wells could do the same. Brian Matter, Barry Wicks, and Alan Krugoff all could end the year better that Lindine!

bustour 2 years ago

Well done, Colt, another great week of Who's #1.
Personally, I'd put Lindine about 9 or 10 on this list, but it will work its way out as the season progresses.

Also, I don't think Compton will be at the race in Tabor this weekend. I think I read she was skipping it and I don't see her on the start list...but I could be wrong there.

LecheapElitist@twitter.com 2 years ago

Sorry. Wrong Code! Use this one: 20033151

LecheapElitist@twitter.com 2 years ago

I have made a Cyclingdirt Mini-league for the new CX season of Velogames Fantasy! Join now the league it starts this weekend!!! Here is the code 20033937
It includes American and Euro CX as UCI points are available on both sides of the pond.

Pretty ridiculous to say Colt has a bias to anything west of the Mississippi since he has lived and raced in New England his whole life, and has only lived in Austin for a little over a month!! Falling off my chair laughing. After looking at the start list for New Gloucester, it appears that the competition is a bit thin. Lindine could again win both days but still not compete with anyone ranked ahead of him. However, since it is the only UCI race this weekend, shouldn't the higher ranked non-world-cup riders be making the trip to Maine?

Kevin Maldonado 2 years ago

I follow your post because you are the only post I know of that uses a brain and current data to say "this week" these are the rankings. I like that. If I wanted a mathematical equation, I would log into USA Cycling. That by the way has LIndine at 3rd in the USA. I disagree with that as well (too high until he beats Johnson and others). Unfortunately your brain was not working this week and you rely on some bs equation to deny Lindine an advancement of position in your rankings. I agree that he should not pass Powers, Trebon, Page, Johnson, Todd Wells, and the other top 7 until he beats them in a race. But to disregard his last 7 races, in which he won 6 and to give rankings 8-13 a pass on your ranking (total silence by you) is not correct. I understand you have a bias toward anything West of the Mississippi (I like Colorado too), but use your brain. How does Shouten (who Lindene has beaten this year) and Driscoll (what did he do this weekend) stay in the rankings? If I want a mathematical formula, I will log into USA cycling.

But now that you have adopted the formula, when Lindine beats anyone in the 1-13 ranking does he get an automatic advancement?

G Block and Ride Guy, Neither Sheppard nor Shouten have even been on a UCI podium this year. Most of Lindine's UCI points in his ranking are from this year, so I think its applicable. Lindine did a pretty good job matching McDonald at Gloucester. I guess will have to wait until Louisville to see is Lindine's improving form puts him into the top 10. But it still begs the question, how many times does he have to win races ahead of guys like Troy Wells & Mark Batty & Evan McNeely, & Derrick St. John to be consider legit.

Anonymous Coward 2 years ago

Evan McNeely (U23) racing in Canada in local races in Ottawa, ON. Close battle with Derrick St. John cyclocross.org.

You guys should definitely consider doing "Who's # 1" for the Junior 17-18s. Lots of competition in that field and would be really cool for you guys to do the future of cycling! Anyways, love the show!

Just me or is Katie Compton the most boring champ out there?

RideGuy 2 years ago

ringcycles, he's not in teh top 10 because no body in the top was there when he won 4 (B level) UCI races in a row. If Justin had flowed out to Colorado or Wisconsin to finish 12th we wouldn't be having the argument. I thought Colt made it pretty clear: X

Ok... one more...

Adam Craig is ranked 13th US rider and hasn't done a cross race all season long. I'm done.

@Ringcycles,

PLEASE don't use the UCI Rankings argument I beg you! These Cyclingdirt rankings only exist because those are so ty! Chris Jones is ranked 8th amongst US riders and he's only been back for 2 weekends! Adam Myerson is ranked 10th amongst US riders!! TENTH!!!! How the F#CKING H#LL DO YOU COME UP WITH THAT!?
Finally, Danny Summerhill is ranked 11th amongst US riders in the UCI rankings and he has only done one race all year, CrossVegas, in which he crashed and finished in the mid 30's. So PLEASE STOP USING THESE RANKINGS TO PROVE YOUR POINT!

Dave McElwaine F 2 years ago

Barry has spent the past couple years transitioning to become a successful mountain bike stage racer in events like Trans Rockies and B.C. Bike Race. These endurance events are quite different training than the World Cups and Pro-XCT races he was specializing in a few years back....namely lower top end speed. Plus Barry moved to Chicago where everyone knows there is no place to actually ride your bike.
