Last week in Vol. VII Andrew and I talked a little bit about our on bike nutrition. This week we are going to bring you more food, the 497 kitchen video blog, and a peek into a typical night’s meal. We also decided to throw out a “Challenge” and share a couple of photos so you can check out the Yarmouth scene. What are we going to eat at the BC Bike Race? The BC Bike race is all inclusive. What does that mean? The entry fee covers everything. Seven days of racing, lodging in the tent city base camp, which is set up and torn down for you each day as the race moves from one location to the next, showers, shuttles and ferry rides along the route, transportation of luggage between base camps, and most pertinent to vol. VIII, FOOD. Breakfast, Dinner, fully stocked on course aid stations, and finish line snacks are provided each day. Breakfast and dinners are prepared by local caterers and will feature their regional fare. We will be eating what ever food is served and seconds are encouraged. The base camps are also situated in towns with grocery stores and restaurants. The aid stations will have Water, Gatorade, Ultima sports drink, Clif Bars, fruit, HoneyStinger bars and gels, cookies, and Sharkies. The two of us will also be bringing some of our own favorites we listed last week. Our local pizza joint, Pat’s Pizza, has a Sunday night special, all the pizza you can eat for $6. Let’s just say we’e been known to do some damage there. We challenge anyone to out eat the 497 at Pat’s Pizza. Next time you are in Maine, give us a call and we will set it up!
BC Bike Blog Vol V.

Welcome back for week five of the Cyclingdirt BC Blog. This week we decided to return to the video format. The video details our bikes, and gives you a tour of our bike shop here at the 497. Look for more equipment profiles in upcoming weeks.

In addition to the video, we also thought we would throw in a quick recap from last week. Canada Cup #2 was held about an hour and a half north of Montreal at Mount Tremblant. The course was very different from Baie-Saint-Paul. Instead of being very tight with short punchy climbs, Tremblant has longer, more sustained climbs, and some steep technical descents. The field at Tremblant was noticeably larger. About 20+ more proÂ’s than the weekend before. Andrew had another stellar race repeating his 12th place finish from last week at Baie St. Paul. The rough course left its mark on JohnÂ’s bike, bending his derailleur hanger, and causing his chain to over shift into his spokes. Although he lost a large chunk of time trying to remedy his situation, John stuck it out and finished the race.

Our goal of hitting up the Root 66 New England Series event on Sunday in Vermont fell through. We ran into problems coming back into the U.S. It took the border patrol over an hour to search our car which delayed us enough to miss the start of the race. Since we were already in Vermont, we decided to hit up Kingdom Trails, a trail network in East Burke. Bike Magazine recently rated Kingdom Trails one of the best trail networks in the US. It was just what we needed to blow off some steam and log in some great training miles.

Round one of the Canada Cup Mountain Bike Series went off yesterday under a sunny sky in Baie Saint Paul, Quebec. Derek Zandstra ran away from the field in the Men's race and left a handful of Canadians to fight for the podium. Andrew Watson proved strongest in the chase pack and took second. The top American was Andrew Freye out of Maine, riding for the Gary Fisher 29er Crew. In the Women's race, Emily Batty put on a show for her Canadian fans and proved her early season results have not been a fluke. She is fast, and getting faster by the second. Amanda Sin recovered well from a not-so-hot race last weekend to take a solid second place.
