Personal

A 12-time national champion in various disciplines of competitive cycling, Adam Craig is one of the more recognizable names on the off-road cycling circuit. Born in Bangor, Maine, the adventure-seeking mountain biker now calls Bend, Ore., his home and is an outdoor and adventure sports enthusiast. After graduating from Dexter Regional High School in 1999 where he competed in track and field, alpine and Nordic skiing and soccer, Adam became serious about mountain biking after riding his bike in the woods near his home.

Off the bike, Adam spends his free time participating in various extreme outdoor activities, including whitewater kayaking, backcountry and Nordic skiing and rally car racing. As a rally car racer, Adam serves as the co-driver of a two-man team, flipping through a manual, deciphering instructions that explain what's around each blind corner and relaying them to the driver. According to Adam, he's on his bike seven days a week unless he's off on an epic kayaking or ski trip.

As a mountain biker, Adam has steadily progressed through the Olympic style cross country ranks. After winning three consecutive U23 national titles (2001-03), he visited the podium at the elite national championships three times before finally winning a Stars-and-Stripes jersey at Mount Snow, Vermont, in 2007 - a performance he equates to earning a podium at a World Cup race. On the national circuit, Adam also competes in the super-downhill and single speed categories of mountain biking, as well as cyclo-cross.

Point of Interest

In 2007, Adam won the Single Speed Mountain Bike World Championships in Aviemore, Scotland. The event isn't recognized by the international federation, so instead of a rainbow jersey and a gold medal, Adam received the customary winner's prize...a commemorative tattoo.
Adam and fellow mountain bike pro Carl Decker won the 2007 overall two-wheel drive Northwest Region Championship in rally car racing. The two hope to compete in the Summer X Games which added the event in 2006.

New to Monavie-Cannondale in 2009 is Utah rider/ bike industry rep Alex Grant. Alex has always had a passion for bikes and the outdoors and has worked in the bike industry as a sales rep for over two years. As a sales rep for brands like Pearl Izumi, Continental, Fizik, Crank Brothers and Gu, Alex drives more than 99% of Americans. In 2009 he will continue to balance his windshield time with epic racing around the world.
A native of VermontÂ’s Green Mountains, Grant began mountain bike racing in the late 1990Â’s around New England. He enjoyed some top regional results as a junior while dicing it out on occasion with riders like Adam Craig and Alan Obye. In 1998 Alex moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend college and took a few years away from bike racing to pursue his passion for snowboarding and travel a little.
Once a bike racer always a bike racer; after a few seasons off Alex was back on his bike in 2004 thinking about racing again. In 2006 he started his first national Pro race at the NMBS finals in Brian Head and placed 20th. In 2007 he earned consistent top results both regionally and nationally, highlighted by a 13th place finish at the XC National Championships.
In 2008 Alex placed 11th in the Deer Valley National XC, took the overall win in the Intermountain Cup (with 5 first place finishes), placed 6th overall at the American Mountain Classic stage race, and showed a sign of his potential by placing 9th at the NMBS finals in Brian Head. Grant was also a member of the Monavie-Cannondale 4 man pro team that took the overall win at the 2008 24 hours of Moab.
Alex looks forward to the “epic” racing schedule of Monavie-Cannondale as he loves endurance racing and testing himself against the elements. He hopes to have his best season yet while racing “on the juice!”

Andreas Hestler aka ‘Dre’ began his passion for mountain biking in 1986, back then it was simply transportation. Soon after moving to Vancouver and embracing the life of a courier an attempt at racing was made and a new love was born. The next 20 years described a full career, 13 years on the World Cup Circuit, World Championship and the Olympics, the lifestyle of a devoted athlete. Taking Canada to the Olympic debut of Mountain Biking in Atlanta (1996) will rank high as an achievement, but so to will representing Canada as the National Champion, and National Series winner 5 times.

In the last few years after winning the Trans Rockies 3 times, Dre has found writing, guiding, event promotion and exploring to be his new hobbies and of course they all happen on bicycles. A true ambassador for the sport, a pioneer, a fierce competitor and all around cyclist with wins on the road, mountain and cross bike, from Epic to short track and Super D, Dre has a two wheel gift, an engine and a personality to match. Come and share the experiences gained in all disciplines, share the knowledge and have a great time getting prepared for your upcoming season.
