Greenfield

New Hampshire

created by: Thom Parsons

A true endurance event. Have you got what it takes to make it to the finish line? The 100 kilometer option (62+ mile) course will wind through the beautiful and varied terrain of Southern New Hampshire. The single loop course will give participants a good mix of mountain bike terrain. The first miles are open and fast, allowing lung and leg warm-up, and a stretching out of the field. Ample technicals and climbing follow in later miles. The current course is planned to be similar, but not identical, to the prior years' editions, as the trail boss always adds enhancements to the ride each year. There is approximately 7,000 feet of climbing. You can see a map of the 2011 course here. The 100 mile option will use the same course, with a lap point at the start/finish area. The second lap will be an abbreviated version, using the same fast first part of the course for nearly 20 miles before looping back into the last dozen miles. Please note that the course crosses many private landowner areas, and these areas are NOT open for pre-riding. Doing so will jeopardize future editions of the event. We take seriously the privacy rights of our generous landowners, and expect all participants to do likewise. If interested in previewing some of the trails passing over private properties near the end of the course, Greenfield Trails Association may again offer led pre-rides on Saturday afternoon/evening. Registration fee includes entry, aid stations with food and fluids, SAG wagon support, post-race meal, complimentary campsite Saturday night at the start/finish venue (no hookups, but within sight of the start/finish line), participant souvenirs, festivities, and awards to top finishers. Racers will be responsible for the information in the Participant Guide. The final version of the document will be included in racer packets. If a racer does not wish to take advantage of the complimentary rough camping at the venue, more traditional overnight lodging, for a fee, may be found in the area. Helpful links include the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, Visit NH, and Greenfield State Park. The primary beneficiary will be Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center, which is dedicated to serving individuals with disabilities and their families. This event specifically supports their accessible recreation and sports program. This program aims to bring people living with disabilities together with family and friends in a range of accessible recreational and sport activities. Visit their website for more information on, or to make an additional donation to, this charitable organization. Additional beneficiaries this season include the Eastern Fat Tire Association, a nonprofit organization which promotes and sanctions mountain bike races, recreational bicycle fun rides, and works on New England mountain bike trail access issues and Greenfield Trails Association, a nonprofit organization working to restore, maintain, and enhance some of the very trails you may ride on. Also benefitting from this year's event will be many local civic and charitable groups from the 6 towns that the course traverses.
