Chuck in the UK

Trebon looked the most powerful rider and the course suited him, but he didn't run the right strategy. JPow got the strategy right and we all know how good he is - 10th and 15th in a World Cup is the true marker. Of the three, Page is the oldest, but he's plucky, dedicated and technically superb. Second in a World Championship not too many ears ago and a string of top tens in World Cups. None of the other two have reached such heights (yet!). He's been riding very well recently in Belgium, but they were wetter, muckier races. He clearly felt really disappointed about finishing behind the younger two, but when he stands back and looks at it objectively, he should not be. Trebon was not as disappointed as Page, but he has a shiny new contract and his future looks bright. Now look, all three of them are great riders. They have earned total respect. Page did describe JPow as "impressive". Dan's use of the words ego maniac and jerk are just bollox (to coin an English phrase). Shameful. Is this how you should describe a champion who has been a fine, well respected ambassador for US CX in Europe? |

Anybody who's talked to Jonathan for five minutes knows just how far words like ego maniac or jerk are from describing who he really is. A lot of American 'cross fans seem to have made their minds up about him without really knowing very much about him, his career, the sacrifices he's made to become probably the most successful American racer in history whose name isn't Katie Compton. |

Powers can thank Page for chasing everything down early and the teamwork by ZMac chasing Trebon later to set up his attack. He played it all perfectly by being patient. Page came in hoping to rip the legs off everyone or he wouldn't have come back over for this...and why shouldn't he have... he's a great bike racer. He put himself in position and then only blamed himself. I like this JP. Hope he comes back to the US next season with more of this... |

I completely agree with @Marc. I saw nothing but a dissapointed athlete in that interview. He was crushed. Granted he may not have the charisma of Powers or Johnson, but he was hardly an "ego maniac" or a "jerk". Try a different lens. |

@Dan...I have a different take on it. I felt like the guy was on the verge of a serious breakdown, contemplating a career of almost greatness, season after season racing against the world's best, and for what? To be called names like "ego maniac" and "jerk" by fans. I felt like he was just trying to keep it together for the camera. |

He just seems like an ego maniac/jerk. Please stay and race in Europe so we don't have to see you and hear your crappy attitude after each race. Take a page out of all of the other pro's books and be gracious in defeat and in victory. All the top pro's seem to be real nice and friendly with each other. I bet this guy rubs a lot of the pros the wrong way. |
