Great event! As hard as advertised. Still glad to have done it!
There were times when a mtb would have been good , (not enough single track on overall course), but riding the paved and fire road sections were better on cross bike. I am glad I did not have to carry a mtb up the power line and some other sections. First timer/old timer comment.
Hope to do it again!

The vid doesn't do a good job of showing the amount of trail vs the amount the road. The crux events came on the trails though with Tread's wheel on Lippencote and then where he catches Pflug on the trails before the last run up. There is a color coded map on the IC blog that gives a better picture of what's what sort of surface - look for the "paint by numbers" post. I'd post it, but this thing "thinks" I'm spamming it so won't let me include the link, sorry.

There are only about 5 miles of trail in the 62 mile long course - everything else is paved or gravel roads and most of the climbing is on roads too - or off the bike shouldering it up the ridge.

Yeah, but there are lengthly dirt road sections where the MTB tire and "beef" is definately overkill.
