Description
Colt From CyclingDirt pushes 'Cross season aside this weekend and journey's North to Travers City, Michigan for the ICEMAN Cometh Challenge. The end of season Mountain Bike race has solidified itself over the years as one of, if not the, biggest off road festivals of the season. And this year is shaping up to be the best of them all.

4,000 total racers will tackle the 27 mile point to point course from Kalkaska to Traverse City, Michigan. Held traditionally on the first Saturday of November, the 21st annual Iceman will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Just under $25,000 in cash prizes and $10,000 in merchandise prizes will be awarded. The men's and women's victor will each go home with $3,500!

On the men's side, defending champ Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski will look to make it two years in a row. Along side him on the start line will be teammates Sam Schultz and Russell Finsterwald, Todd Wells, Jeremiah Bishop, Tristan Schouten, Brian Matter, Andy Schultz, Colin Cares, and a slew of road pros including Brent Bookwalter, his BMC teammates, and 10 men from the Bissell Pro Cycling team! With the race traditionally staying together to the finish we could see a road style bunch sprint to finish it off!

The women's field lacks some depth from years past but the power at the front end is world class. Heather Irmiger, Amanda Carey, and Sue Stevens are likely to cause excitement at the front while defending champ and former World champion Alison Dunlap is pregnant to have her first child.

Stay tuned to CyclingDirt all weekend long for interviews, highlights, and race footage from the event.

This is one of the best races in the country. No doubt. Get your Iceman stickers here and support the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy's purchase of acreage that will help continue the Iceman legacy. Search for Iceman Stickers on eBay.

Could not be happier for Amanda Carey's success this year. And....this feels like Leadville revenge to me that the mountain bikers totally crushed the roadies who thought they could win on a "fire road" course. Way to go Brian!

Thanks Troy, Interviewed them both! Vids up in a few hours!

Brian Matter takes the WIN and $3500! Todd Wells 2nd Jeremiah Bishop 3rd! After that I think it was Sam Schultz 4th, Tristan Schouten 5th, Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski 6th... Full results, report, video, etc. tonight! Colin Cares and Russ Finsterwald in the top 10 too. Roadies got PWNED!

Amanda Carey owned the women's race and took an equal payout of $3500 for her win! Heather Irmiger was strong on her SS but had chain trouble and had to DNF.
