Take the dime tour of the Pro Cross Country course, ready for the 2010 US National Championships at SolVista Bike Park, this July 15-18.

Built to USAC spec and instruction as a means of preparing U.S. cross country riders for the World Championships at Mont Sainte Anne, the course is about 2.6 miles long per lap (pros will do about 8) with approximately 700 feet of vertical per lap.

And don't worry about Lola, she had a rough day with that porcupine, but a quick trip to the vet and a good night's sleep later and she was running around like nothing ever happened.

Stateroftheobvious, well said. Plan on the US Nationals being a Colorado rider fest.

You all miss the #1 most sucky thing about this course. It's at 8500'.

...? 2 years ago

Ty, you say she is not unbeatable. Show me a single 'cross result were she was beat in North America! Then go listen to some of Nash and Gould's interviews on here. They'd be the first ones to tell you that they are nowhere CLOSE to Katie!

ty 2 years ago

Maybe you dont follow the CX much, yeah she wins alot of races, but she isnt unbeatable here, especially since she always has some sort of new mysterious illness (leg cramps, thyroid) She's good, but not head and shoulders above Gould and Nash for sure.

That course is LAME! Why would anybody want to watch the pros race on that? Check out the course from the World Championships in Australia last year...

Ty, that was a joke, right?

Were talking about the same Katie Compton? The 6 time consecutive national champion, World Championships medalist, World Cup winning, top ranked rider in the world Katie Compton? When was the last time she was beat by anyone on US Soil? She is the most dominant cycles Male or Female in North America. "No Competition" is an understatement!

ty 2 years ago

Compton has no competition? Sorry I think you have missed Georgia and katarina racing.

Looks fun though.

That's rocks? haha

TTT, I hear you, but I tend to disagree about the comp. I don't think we have any trouble finding good competition here in the USA for mountain biking. In 'cross you can argue that Compton has no competition, but in MTB it's not like that. We have different guys winning every race. World Cup racing is almost a different sport than what we have here in the USA. Over there, they can build courses for the Pros because they can make money off holding Pro races (lots of spectators = lots of sponsorship money...) In the US they depend on entry fees to make their money, so the courses have to be fun for the Cat 3's and Cat 2's first.

G, I was replying in regards to the comment on how this course will prepare pro riders for Worlds. At 51 years old, and my son just getting into Mtb, I wouldn't want him or myself riding pro courses. But if he chooses to pursue pro racing and if he wants to compete at a Wold Cup level like our friends at USAC are so sold on, then we have to offer our riders not only quality courses, but quality competition.

I don't see either right now.

I was reading "between the lines." Maybe USA Cycling did push for a better pro course in prep for Saint Anne, but if were the moutnain, I wouldn't waist my money on a course only the pros could ride one day a year.

Have you ever ridden the Saint Anne course? Top cat 1's in the US would be off their bike 30 times. If you want to prepare for a course like that, go to Europe and race World Cups.

"Built to USAC spec and instruction as a means of preparing U.S. cross country riders for the World Championships at Mont Sainte Anne,"

Read the fine print G Block

The courses don't " prepare" the riders, competition does!

G Block 2 years ago

Doesn't look all that tough, but I bet it's super fun to ride!

At the end of the day, the mountain isn't putting in all this work for the pros to have a good course to race on in July, they are putting in all this time and money to have some ripping trails that beginners and intermediate riders will enjoy and pay money for lift tickets and bike rentals and cabin rentals, etc.

Also, I don;t think USAC has anything to do with the course design. This is all the resort's doing. They could maybe do a bit more to encourage "pro" level courses, but it's not like steve johnson is out there driving the bulldozer.

TTT 2 years ago

TT, what else would you expect from USAC....it's par for course and is one of many reasons Europe and countries like Canada school the Americans.

I read on here that there UCI stage race out in Colorado Springs was a joke, with less than 45 men and ZERO spectators.

Fustrating indeed.

TT 2 years ago

That's not a National Championship course! Looks more like a beginner course. Why would spectators want to watch people race on this course It might look fun to ride, but far from challenging. Seriously, eight rocks....SWEET!

How is this course going to get anybody ready for Mont Ste Anne...

This is everything that's wrong with American mountain bike racing. .FRUSTRATING!
