This week, we check in with Ty Kady from the US Cup Event Management Company. We talk USA Cycling, UCI, and the future of domestic mountain biking in the states. There will be a new video each day, Monday 21 - Friday 25. In this episode, we talk about the USA, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the future of US Cup.

For more on a "North American Pro XCT," check out this interview from this summer with Canada's Nicholas Vipond.

From July. 29. 2009. In the world of Mountain Biking, Nicholas Vipond is one of the most important people in North America. For us in the US, it's all too easy to forget about our neighbors to the North. With such good races here in the states, and all the best Canadians coming to us anyway, what good is Canada, right? Well, They don't see it that way up there. Canada is putting on a National race series and taking care of their athletes in a way to rival any nation around the globe. And you need look no further than last weekend to see how their efforts are paying off. Canada's Mt. Saint Anne hosted it's 18th consecutive World Cup which saw the home country take 3rd in the men's race and 1st in the women's. For years Canada has hosted rounds of the World Cup while the States has struggled to get UCI sanctioning at even National Series races. Next year, Canada will play host to five UCI C1s, one HC, and the 2010 MTB World Championships. Maybe we should be paying a little more attention to what's going on up there. Dare I say, even taking notes...

I asked USA Cycling (via twitter) to respond to this thread of videos and here is the response:
"@Jedzilla Takes more room than a tweet to respond. For starter we are helping offset some costs of hosting a UCI race."

Thanks to all and have a Happy New Year!!

Thanks for these vids! Great to hear about the sport from this perspective.

someone needs to sit these guys down in a room and not let them leave until we have a North American PRO XCT. Great idea, Colt!
Not sure it's my idea, but I agree about locking these guys in a room! I made it a point to travel up there for a couple Canada Cups, World Cups, and Canadian Nationals this year to try and get a feel for how they do things. The have things dialed! We could learn a lot from them.
