Sam Schultz Pre Race Bromont WC

There were literally hundreds of pre race interviews this year. To me, this one stands out as the best. I had just arrived at the venue in Bromont after a 10 hour drive and was anxious to get a couple interviews and get to the hotel to relax for a while. I had just finished telling Heather Irmiger that I was done for the day when I ran into Sam. I joked that he was too late and I was going home. (He didn't think I was joking) I started the interview (clearly distracted and unfocused) then he just said it, "Top 10." I'm so used to getting "Just going to do my best and see what happens" it was awesome to hear Sam, of all people, go out on that limb. Fast forward 24 hours and here comes Sam rolling by on lap three in 6th place. (on of the few times I've turned the camera off early to cheer someone on.)

As we all know, a chain mechanical took away Sam's chances that day, but he's been a new rider ever since. The confidence looks good on him.
