Water Bottles Are So 2008...

Can't say where I came across this "VelEau installation," but I thought it was worth sharing. The hydration system is being tested by a few riders in training and you may catch a few of them in action at the upcoming BC Bike race. I'd look in Sue's direction...

The seat pack supposedly can hold up to 40 oz. The mouthpiece is on a retractable cord that will pull it back into place when finished drinking. The rest is up to you to try and decipher...

i think one good huck would snap that 40 ouncer off the seat, or worse - snap the post ... but just my opinion.
granted - it would be nice on an easy ride day to get the sweaty pack off your back though

Who is the manufacturer, or, even better, do you have a link to the manufacturer's site?

This almost seems like a case of reinventing the wheel. I feel like the difference in motions from using a hydration pack to this system is negligible at best, and that the issues of being slightly off-balance (one hand on bar) for either system are similar. Also, in the case you are in a longer event (or a really hot day), I would still prefer picking up and dropping off bottles over removing a reservoir from a seat bag to refill/replace. If the system is capable of removing the tubing from the reservoir (like Dakine), this is less of an issue, but still adds a few extra steps in the refilling process. I'll be interested to see what other riders have to say about it, but I remain skeptical.

From the company...

"VelEau is a seat-mounted hydration system that carries 40 oz (~1.2L) of fluid, with integrated storage for nutrition, spare parts, tools and other common cycling accessories.
Novel tube routing and attachment connects the seat mounted reservoir to a bite-valve at the front of the bike. The result is an easier, faster, and safer to use system than the traditional water bottle/cage or hydration back pack."
