2009 Escape From Granogue : Brief Update

The 2009 Escape From Granogue is now in the books. The weather was about as miserable as you could hope for mountain bike racing, but people seemed to find some joy in it. Leave it to mountain bike racers to find pleasure in 2 hours of pushing your bike uphill in the rain. Turnout was good regardless. I think I heard 450? Good turnout in the Pro Men's Race, too. Wes Schempf crushed it from the gun to take the win. Kyle Hammaker went with him for the first half lap then faded. Good day for Jeff Bahnson as well. Still a Junior technically, Jeff rode his way to 4th in the Pro/ Open race. We'll have a full report, results, and of course, all the race videos up later.

For now, I'm sitting in the car here in Wilmington, DE outside an undisclosed hotel with free wifi doing a little uploading before hitting the road back to Boston. Thinking about maybe spending the night in NYC. Everything will be up by tomorrow at the latest.

In the mean time, let's see what you've got... Upload your own photos/ videos to the coverage page for everyone to check out. If you think you're too cool, or your photos aren't good enough, or that it'll be too hard- you're wrong. On the coverage page, you'll see two blue links just below the Title that say [add photos] and [add videos]. Go for it! Same goes for your own race reports/ blogs. We want to hear what you thought of the race/ how your race was. You can post it to the site as a blog just like the one you're reading now... If you have a ridiculously popular blog of your own that takes precedence, then just copy and paste it here when you're done.

Also, fro those familiar with the MASS series online-hang-outs, feel free to share this link and help people find the coverage!

More from Granogue later...

Messed and Mudded
Granogue turned into the sloppiest, messiest mud I have seen. As written before on this blog, when the mud turns to recycled peanut butter, and I have to walk my ride turns south. not sure I could have powered for 4 hours regardless, but that workout was hardly cycling. Pictures to come when ever they pop up on the web. Still cleaning the mud out of the eyes. Place is like a moment frozen in time, when the Dupont came out in th 1800's attire, 20 coaches with horses, wagon, trumpet and marksmen.
Took apart the entire bike to clean and get the water out of the steel frame. Two shot bb bearings, and disc pads. Everything is sitting on top of news paper with a spray of lube. frames hanging on the stand. 32X20 was fine, course had some hills, but the walking in mud with the mud clinging to the bike is what halted me. dam bike must had been fifty pounds. When a saw a junior hoisting his bike, I thought that thing must weigh twice his weight. Congrats to all that indured that slog.
