Derek Hermon - NORBA candidate
I was nominated recently to be a MTB Industry Trustee and am honored to introduce myself to the mountain biking community. As the owner of Bear Valley Bikes in Big Bear Lake, California since 2002, my bike shop serves as a gateway to both locals and visitors from around the world to experience the thrill of riding bikes. I assist riders, ranging from beginners to professionals, to reach their personal goals as the owner and director sportif of Team Bear Valley Bikes which includes a mountain, road and Cycle Cross team. Bear Valley Bikes has been a pioneer in junior development racing and currently has the number one junior race team in the state of California.
My roots in cycling began as a BMX racer and I had a role in the manufacturing side of the cycling industry by helping to develop and test products that contributed to the evolution of the sport and its technological advancement. I discovered a passion for cycling in 1980 and currently race professionally in XC, Super-D, CycleCross and Downhill. Inducted into the Big Bear Mt. Bike Hall of Fame in 2008, I was recognized as a leader and avid supporter of the mountain biking community. As a current member of the Big Bear Bike Coalition, I assist with the development and expansion of bike routes, implementing increased safety measures and community awareness.
My ongoing drive to further my education and skills as a mechanic led me to become licensed as a USA cycling official and certified as an Olympic mechanic in 2008. In 2009, I had the opportunity to work the Tour of California as a mechanic for Mavic and I continually provide neutral support at mountain bike races across southern California.
On a personal level, discovering a love for cycling, for both a career and recreation, has provided a path to live a positive life. Cycling has opened up an immense arena for my personal growth and an avenue to share my teachings, experience and passion with novices and seasoned riders alike. “Spread the Love” is more than my business motto; it is a working, breathing model to awaken a passion for the sport and to contribute to the cycling community.
Thank you for considering me, Derek Hermon, to be a part of the MTB Industry Board of Trustees. I can be reached at 909-866-8000 and at bearvalleybikes@gmail.com. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the world that is cycling.

LOve to have you take part
