Perhaps it was a sign foretelling the outcome of the weekend. The Rim Nordic Super D mountain bike series attracted a small but competitive field on July 24. Many of the same riders also participated in the cross country race the following day with similar results.
Ely Woody of Chains Required won the men’s pro Super D over Derek Hermon of Bear Valley Bikes. It was the first of two wins for Woody during the weekend of Rim Nordic racing.
Bear Valley Bikes dominated the results sheet with Super D wins by Connor McCutcheon, Reggie Lamson, Casey Williams, Evan Williams, Karen Lundgren and Ronda Warden. Casey, McCutcheon, Lundgren and Warden also won their cross country races to collect double gold during the weekend.
After two Super D races, the overall series pro leader is Woody who holds a 72-point advantage over Hermon. Other overall leaders include Casey in open junior men 14-18, McCutcheon in open men 19-29, Lamson in open men 40-49, Lundgren in pro women, Warden in open women 40-49 and Evan in open junior 13-and-under.
The next race in the Rim Nordic Super D series is Aug. 14. The series finale is Aug. 28.
Hermon is one cyclist who is glad for the three-week respite from competition. “I’m overtrained right now,” he said. The time off will help him recover for the next two races, he said.
