Kevin McRee

March 5, 2013, 2:59am

After speaking with Rotem about his weekend of racing he was eager to show us his new rig, a Jamis Carbon Nemesis 650.  "It handles great and is super light", said Rotem when describing his prototype rig, "there are only three of these". Rotem's carbon Nemesis 650 was outfitted similarly to its current aluminum counterpart, but with the added benefit of carbon.  PF30 bottom bracket, tapered headtube, direct mount front derailleur, and 142x12mm thru axle all help to keep the frame light and responsive. Rotem piloted the carbon Nemesis ...

Gokiso Aerospace Suspension Hubs

Gokiso, a Japanese company, has it's background in building bearings for jet engines.  No doubt they felt that their extensive knowledge in super high grade metals and aerospace technology would be best used to develop hubs for bicycles. The cut-away shows an impressive design.  Two aerospace quality bearings on each side of the hub are protected by a sleeve that houses rollar bearings and absorbs impacts from the road.  The exotic hubs feature a 92 points of engagment.  Gokiso was also displaying their new Super Climber hub...

That's A Knife: The Winning Bikes From MJ's Classic

While some chose a hardtail for their weapon of choice (i.e. Emily Batty), those on the top step of the podium showed that a full suspension was best for the rocky and technical terrain in Austin.  Both Aussies, Dan McConnell and Bec Henderson, are new additions to the Trek Factory Racing team and both chose the Trek's new Superfly 100 SL (The same bike that we previously spotted). With Track Factory's training camp in Austin, new bikes were handed out only a few days before Saturday's race. No 26" wheels on the rack or trailer. The comple...

Ellis Cycles' Super Gravel Bike, The Strada Fango

David Wages has a history working for Serotta and Waterford before opening up his own shop five years ago, Ellis Cycles, named after his grandmother.  Working mostly with steel, Wages had participated in The Strada Fango Classic, a race in Wisconsin.  Never doing it before, Wages thought it was a normal gravel race so he brought his 'cross bike.  Realizing he didn't have the right tool for the race, he went to work designing a bike that was up to the race's harsh terrain. The Strada Fango was built around 29x2.0 tires to tackle r...

Cielo's Le Mans Inspired 'Cross Racer

Introduced last year, but not available until now is Cielo's 'Cross Racer Disc which will accompany the canti equipped 'Cross Racer.  Both in Aston Martin DBR1 inspired livery. Like Aston Martin, Cielo wanted the bikes to be easily spotted when coming into the pits so both 'Cross Racers feature bright paint on the 44mm headtube and leading edge of the Enve tapered fork. A Chris King I7 headset is included with each frame. Both frames are built around a PF30 bottom bracket that has only a 61mm drop.  These were built up with King's ne...
