Down to the Wire: Vervecken Jumps to Day 2 Planet Bike Cup Win, Compton Repeats
September 27, 2009, 5:34pm
Katie Compton (Planet Bike) again proved to be unstoppable as she tore through the elite women’s field at day two of the Planet Bike in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Katerina Nash (Luna) again looked to be the best suited to give Compton a run, but Compton’s mix of power and technique was too much for the Czech ‘crosser, and Compton again took a commanding win. Georgia Gould (Luna) had made her way up the leading two early in the race, before a Compton attack put her to rest for good, relegating her to third on the day. The course t...
September 26th, 2009 - (Sun Prairie, WI) The USGP of Cyclocross raced in Sun Prairie, WI today under beautiful sunny skies and warm weather. The racing for the inaugural USGP Planet Bike Cup was fast and aggressive from the gun. After suffering from a crash in Wednesday’s Cross Vegas, all eyes were on Luna’s Katerina Nash to see if she could hold on to the frantic pace of Katie Compton (Planet Bike). The Planet Bike Cup set the stage for another battle between the heads of the American cyclocross state. For a few l...

Before the opening gun of Cross Vegas, all eyes were on the European talent who hopped across the pond to try to show the cream of America's crop who was boss. When the winner crossed the finish line, it was the same Europeans who will return to Europe with their tail between their legs, soundly beaten by their American counterparts. Only the top two Americans were not the riders most expected. Jamey Driscoll (Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld.com) and Chris Jones (Champion System) put on an astounding show of force to keep such legendary European sta...
The 2009 edition of the Rad Racing GP in Lakewood, Washington, came down to a sprint finish between the duo of Jonathan Page (Planet Bike) and Christian Heule (Rendementhypo Cycling Team), with the former outpacing the latter in dominating fashion. Page and Heule emerged from a strong leading group that included the likes of Ryan Trebon (Kona), Barry Wicks (Kona), Jeremy Powers (Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld), Jamey Driscoll (Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld) and Andy Jacques-Maynes (Bissel Pro Cycling) among other. Driscoll chased the majority of the r...
After slipping her way into second place at Star Crossed on Saturday, Sue Butler was riding a high when she rolled into Rad Racing. Butler was eager to prove that her second place, which she gained thanks to the simultaneously falls of Alison Sydor (Rocky Mountain-Maxxis) and Alison Dunlap (Luna Chix), was not a fluke. Butler started out her mission quite well, as she and Helen Wyman (Kona) separated themselves from the field with only half a lap in the books. While Butler charged ahead, Wyman was the victim of an untimely flat, which struck at...
For the second year in a row, rains greeted fans and racers at the Full Speed Ahead Star Crossed race in Seattle. And once again, the wet conditions made for a packed beer tent, soggy, muddy grass, and exciting, crash-filled racing. Early races enjoyed a relatively dry course (see our exclusive course preview here, considering overnight and early morning rains. But when the skies opened up during the women's race, the course disintegrated and crashes started. A Brit Conquers America Helen Wyman (Kona) made a good impression...
By Jake Sisson Helen Wyman (Kona) made a good impression for her new Kona team employers by winning the opening race on the American UCI Calendar, the 2009 edition of Star Crossed in Redmond, Washington. Wyman took a wire-to-wire victory ahead of defending champion Sue Butler (Monaviecannondale.com) and the newly unretired Alison Dunlap (Luna Chix). Wyman took the holeshot and never looked back, take a win by more than 30 seconds. While Wyman’s victory was never really in doubt, the trio of Butler, Dunlap and Canadian Alison Sydor (Rocky ...
The weather forecast promised late sun but predictions aren't always right in Seattle. The University of Washington football team pulled off a huge upset of #3 ranked USC, and the skies erupted with rain as women were underway. Overnight rains didn't do much to mess up the course, and early races enjoyed a surprisingly tacky grass course. But once the pros made their final tire selections (mostly grifos and typhoons) the skies opened up. Many of the top men were eager to test their legs and test their competitors. Last year's winner, Jeremy Pow...
