RESULTS: New Hampshire 100 NUE Tanguy Beats Tinker, Bishop almost gets shot

When I rolled into Greenfield, New Hampshire from Breckenridge I expected to find Jeremiah Bishop already cleaned up, maybe getting a massage or knocking off another chapter of his memoir. But no, it was Christian Tanguy who was leading the race, though you wouldn't know it from asking people on course, it was all Tinker fever out there. I heard multiple reports that Tinker Juarez had lead into the second lap, somehow they had all missed the blue kit of the diminutive Team CF rider as he blazed through the start/finish. Tanguy would finish over six minutes ahead of Juarez, raving "Aw man, New Hampshire is fantastic, I love it!"

Juarez finished strong, expecially considering the kind of miles he'd put in over the past week with the Leadville 100 and the Mt. Washington Hill Climb just the day prior.

A lot of fast guys had tough days out on the NH100 course. The consesus seemed to be that it was a fun course but that it was hard. I asked Jeremiah Bishop if it was tougher than Leadville, he said it was TWICE as hard. "What about the elevation?" I asked. "Elevation isn't the course" he wisely replied. Michael "Simonster" Simonson, a huge, powerhouse of a man, had trouble with the punchy climbs. Bishop had four flat tires and had to rummage through someone's garage looking for a floor pump, eventually finishing an uncharacteristic sixteenth place. Rob Spreng called it a "mountain biker's course" and he classifies himself as a mountain biker, so he was able to pull off a fourth place in front of Brandon Draugelis. Keck Baker who is anything but a mountain biker landed fifth despite his claims that he can't ride singletrack. Watch out for that dude if he ever learns how to ride a bike.

Cheryl Sornson, another Team CF rider was stoked to snag another win in front of Vicki Barclay and Karen Potter. This sets Cheryl up for a showdown with Amanda Carey at Fool's Gold in Georgie just a few weeks out. She said she plans to skip Shenandoah Mountain 100 to be fresh for the EPIC battle. I don't know about you, but I can't wait.

Tanguy's win in New Hampshire set up a showdown as well — Bishop and Tanguy each go into the final race with two wins. This is why having a series like this is sweet.

Singlespeeder Gerry Pflug is in a little bit safer place series-title-wise. He finished second at NH100 to a big-gear-churning Ron Harding. A.J. Linnell of Victor, ID is/was about the only threat to Pflug for the series overall, but he didn't have the best day in New Hampshire. The flat. spinny sections did him in, he's more used to grinding up huge climbs and bombing down long descents.

In the Masters race Ron Sanborn, the former hard-drinking obese guy from Michigan turned amazingly-fast bike racer notched up another win over Roger "Mecha-Kong" Masse.

The NUE Series divides on the September first and second with some racers heading to the Park City Point to Point in Utah while others head to the massive party in the woods that doubles at Shenandoah Mountain 100. BigBikes will be heading to SMT100 (I think), then to Fool's Gold...then to Pisgah Monster Cross...then to Pisgah Mountain Bike Stage Race...then to Three Peaks (maybe)...then it's back up north for a day of the Grand Prix of Gloucester and The Vermont 50.

Then it's cross season kids.
